#RaiseYourSails – The Theme for PIRATE Live 2021
Last year was anything but normal.
The impact of the global pandemic was unlike anything we could have imagined. Each one of us has felt the effects in our own way.
Going far beyond health – the social, cultural, and economic impact has fundamentally changed many aspects of life as we knew it. Priorities have shifted, behavior has fundamentally changed and things that seemed impossible all of a sudden aren’t an issue anymore.
It feels like a strong storm has hit us unexpectedly. And we slowly start to realize its impact. This crisis – so we believe – will leave serious scars and its after-effects will be felt for many years if not decades.
We will look back at this time as an inflection point. An end but also a new beginning. Beginnings are the starting point of unwritten journeys. They hold sheer endless possibilities. To us this moment in time is an opportunity to realize that we can and should actively shape our future.
The overarching theme of PIRATE Live 2021 is #RaiseYourSails
#RaiseYourSails as a metaphor reflects what is needed most in times with dramatic change: Resilience, grit, and taking action. It is about accepting and dealing with a new reality and subsequently shaping it into something good. As such, it is deeply entrepreneurial.
It’s what you do at the beginning of a journey or – after you have weathered the storm – when you want to pick up speed again. It’s the action you take when you’ve charted your path and examined where the winds are blowing.
It requires courage, confidence, and curiosity. The courage to leave the harbor, even though the course ahead of you might be uncertain. The confidence in your own abilities. And the curiosity to be open to the new and unknown.
#RaiseYourSails is applicable to businesses and individuals alike
You are the captain of your life. After all, life is a possibility and it is what you make of it. However, it is hard as organizations often aren’t designed for people to realize their full potential.
Humans are the smallest part of an organization. And just like we don’t view organizations as machines we don’t see people as merely “resources”. People don’t just function. They aren’t just users, a support ticket, newsletter churn, or a rounding error in a KPI either.
We deeply acknowledge that everybody is on their own journey. As such, the people that businesses serve, work, and partner with have expectations, dreams, needs, desires, fears, etc.
In order to build better and more successful businesses, we need to view humans as a whole. And it starts with us.
That’s why this year at PIRATE Live we will focus not only on what makes businesses better but also on how we can evolve as human beings.
