PIRATEx Produces OUT OF THE BOX.NRW for the Second Year!
For the second year, PIRATEx partners with North Rhine-Westphalia’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalization and Energy to produce the OUT OF THE BOX.NRW award.
The OUT OF THE BOX.NRW award aims to identify and award those innovative and unique digital startups who think and act “out of the box”, and showcase the excellence of the NRW startup ecosystem.
With a total of 50,000 euros in prize money, the OOTB is one of the most highly endowed start-up competitions in Germany. In addition, it gives startup teams the opportunity to present themselves in front of top-class investors and make new contacts.
Over 100 startups were nominated for this year’s competition, and 12 have advanced through to the finalist stages.
The twelve startups for the OOTB final include:

- GREENbimlabs GmbH, Aachen
- IconPro GmbH, Aachen
- Lumoview Building Analytics GmbH, Cologne
- Reedu GmbH & Co. KG, Münster
- sentin GmbH, Essen
- Tremaze UG, Dortmund
- TrustCerts GmbH, Gelsenkirchen
- Westphalia DataLab GmbH, Münster
The startups will be showcased through individual digital features produced by PIRATEx, and available on www.outofthebox.nrw. The features will help introduce the companies to the community for a public vote at the final of the competition, to be held during PIRATE Live September 1, 2021.
This multiyear collaboration between PIRATEx and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalization and Energy involves organizing the startup competition– including, producing the individual startup features, as well as developing the live awards show.
